At its inception in 1923, the 24 Hours of Le Mans was called « Grand Prix of Speed and Endurance » with cars on the track that had to retain part of their original off-track equipment. Over the years, the cars evolved into prototypes and road GTs modified for competition, but the purpose remained the same: to win the race in La Sarthe. Today, it is not just about combining performance and durability for 24 hours, but also about taking into account the development of new technologies (hybrid for example) linked to today's environmental consciousness.
