The protagonist, special forces soldier Ivan Doronin, learns of the death of his ex-wife, with whom he hardly communicated and only regularly paid child support for his son Misha. Doronin, who was given leave due to being wounded during the release of hostages, goes to his native village of Medvezhye to pick up the child. But on the spot he learns that his wife has another son, from another man. Both boys live with Doronin's stepfather. Ivan remains in the village to formalize guardianship over Misha. At the same time, the hero has to replace his stepfather, who suddenly fell ill, at work as a postman. While delivering mail around the neighborhood, Ivan often finds himself in difficult situations, where his special forces skills come in handy. So, Doronin will have to take care of the peace of the villagers, become a real father not only to his own child, but also to someone else's child, and also enter into an unequal battle with a high-ranking official for the love of a local beauty.
