Every year thousands of beachgoers flock to Aotearoa's iconic surf beach, Mount Maunganui, to enjoy their Christmas and summer holidays. While they relax, there is one crew that is working overtime to ensure everyone makes it home safely.

Bay Patrol follows Mount Maunganui's life-saving heroes. From the most daring and heart-wrenching rescues, shark sightings and medical events – we are offered unprecedented insight into how these first responders keep the holiday town safe all summer long.

It's the start of the peak lifeguard season and our Bay Patrol guards are preparing themselves for a busy summer. Regional Supervisor Nate has handpicked the best of the best and these young guards will need to step up this season! Covid means no tourists or cruise ships but that doesn't mean their job is going to be any easier. With 125km of white sandy coastline to cover, the local lifeguards are tested to their limits, as they face high-pressure life and death situations!
