1941, Soviet Union. Pyotr is a math teacher in a small village near Rostov. He is ignorant to politics and quite sure that calm and loyal behaviour can make one invisible in the eyes of the authorities. Everything changes very rapidly. After a ferocious fight Red Army retreats and Nazis take into the possession of the small bit of land. They impose a curfew and order to hand over all the weapons under the threat of the execution. That is the way tragedy comes into Pyotr's family so he has to take out old hidden rifle and be ready to act.
