Nadia works as a cashier in a supermarket in a small provincial town. She lives modestly with her son, Sanka. Suddenly she has a serious heart disease - she needs a heart transplant. Nadia, taking her son and cat, goes to the capital, where she is expected in a charity fund. She meets the employee of the foundation Olga and her friend Alena. While Nadia is in the hospital, Alena takes Sanka in and takes care of him. When it turns out that the fund can not help Nadia, she transfers custody of Sanka to Alena. The boy remains in the capital, and Nadia returns to her native city to die.
However, after a while the donor heart is found for Nadia and she returns to the capital. Sanka lives with Alena and misses his mom. After a successful operation, Nadia wants to regain her son, but faces Alena's resistance. She is a legal guardian, and does not intend to return the child she is attached to.
