Overcrowded drug houses, people smuggling and homeless people on the brink of collapse; Fortunately, we are not often confronted with these situations in the Netherlands, but in other countries it is the order of the day. For the new AVROTROS program Ellie op Patrouille, police officer Ellie Lust exchanges the familiar streets of Amsterdam for those of Colombia, Kenya, Israel, Dubai, Albania and San Francisco. She goes on patrol with her international police colleagues; not as a spectator, but really as part of the team. In local uniform, with an open mind and armed with a good dose of Amsterdam guts, Ellie gives a unique insight into the world of foreign police forces. In Ellie on Patrol, Ellie shows the various facets of the challenging, but sometimes difficult police work. While the day initially seems to go smoothly, she is in a wild chase a moment later. One minute Ellie overcomes her fears in a police helicopter, the next she and her team are raiding a crowded drug house. And then she suddenly finds herself in Dubai in the most luxurious police car in the world; a real McLaren. As diverse as the police work, so diverse are the episodes. Each episode of Ellie on Patrol focuses on a different country or city and theme. In Colombia, for example, she dives into the world of drug trafficking, in Kenya she sees the distressing problems surrounding child prostitution and she speaks in San Francisco with some of the many homeless people in the city.
