To avoid being discovered, he reaches for his gun, but Liski is faster. Later, Zofia goes to Lviv, she manages to meet Aksinia. The woman says that Zbyszek survived the slaughter but was caught by the UPA. Later, Wasylko got his friends drunk and released him, and Zbyszek gave him his documents in return. Zofia's brother, Maurycy, also survived the Ukrainian slaughter. In an institution for the terminally ill, Zofia meets a completely bald old man without eyebrows and eyelashes. Despite her efforts, Zofia fails to take her brother to Poland. Maurycy, as a Soviet citizen, must live and die in the USSR. Karl Weber arrives in Wrocław. He is already old and, saying goodbye to the world, he would like to stay in the House of Two Eagles once again. When Karl sees young Helena, he immediately recognizes the daughter of his beloved sister.
