The teenager Sasha dies in a car accident, and his mother Nina Tsareva and three younger brothers are hospitalized. Loginov and Petrovskaya interview witnesses to the incident and establish that the cause of the accident was a technical malfunction. However, the man who accidentally saved Tsareva and her sons insists on his version, according to which Nina herself wanted to commit suicide and kill her children.
