1Xtra veteran, DJ Ace takes us through the journey of the UK's first national Black music radio station - featuring previously unseen archive and exclusive interviews with DJ talent, past and present as well as successful artists such as Emeli Sande, Chip, Wretch 32 & Potter Payper - all of whom got their breaks on the station.
From the stations humble beginnings and the explosion of Black British music, to difficult conversations within the Black community and the station serving as a conveyor belt for talent. This is a look at how 1Xtra has embedded Black British music within wider British culture, permanently changing not just the UK music industry and the aspirations of young Black artists and creatives, but British society in general.
